After the meeting with the group, early morning talk with Bernice, Douglas Gorden's Jonas Mekas (?) the film maker, black screen with audio background, fragmented pieces like a diary, doesn't quite match with the audio and images. The imaginary space that exists inbetween reminded me of the exhibition going on at Turner Margate, how those lines of words of description can create this imagery in individual's mind.

'anger room' workhshop .

being radical about the forms of the essay writing , it can be story narrative , or i thought baout if i could by applying the encoded (eg. morse code .. or the simplified code to create its own meaning and rule to the title , and the riddle of the answer for the title is in the article , through the whole essay is to sort the myth out , a way through some questions ..

22 Jan notes

Five Pieces for Projection, Victor Burgin.

(P3) A note on Occasio :

Freud spoke of the contribution made to the formation of a dream by the 'day's residues' - memor traces of events and thoughts from the day preceding the dream which are opportunistically seized by the 'dream-work' for the expression of unconscious desires.  Occasio is a waking product of such resides structured in accordance with the looping and repetitive movements characteristic of daydreams.

(P23) A note on Mirror Lake:

...draws upon recollections, notes and photographs from that journey and that stay. The work comprises three sections of intertitles together with photographic panoramas, 3D-modelled scenes and a three-second clip from Andrei Tarkovsky's film of 1975, Mirror.

Thinking Is Form. The Drawings of Joseph Beuys.

seminal artist ? of our century . notorious artist of the nation

... John Cage - whose interests and influence embraced intersecting fields including metaphysics, the arts, the environment, or een politics - the dilemma posed by the loss of that artist, as the living centre of a complex body of ideas, actions, and images, is to find ways in which to understand the works of art that remain as containing and expressing that life.

... thinking is form, express Beuys's conception of the processes of drawing and making sculpture as profoundly akin to thought ...

(P21) A single rose in a graduated cylinder - "a rose for direct democracy" - stood stop an office table throughout the exhibition (fig.6 We can't do it without roses). The simple image captured the essence of Beuys's philosophy: the need to unite spirit and science, love and knowledge. The rose also symbolized Beuys's idea of revolution: a gradual, organic blossoming from within.

(P37) the Ulysses sketchbook

encyclopedic view of the artist's formal and thematic vocabulary. The invention of language was again on Beuys's mind ...

On not knowing - how artists think:

(P8)

'In a language you don't understand'  Elizabeth Fisher

the Socratic paradox embodes 'not knowing' at the root of Western metaphysical thought.

Or as the writer Donald Barthelme writes in his now famous 1987 essay, "Not Knowing": "The not knowing is crucial to art, is what permits to be made. [...] without the possibility of having the mind move in unanticipated directions, there would be no invention."

Gary Peters, in his essay " Ahead of Yes and No: Heidegger on Art and Not Knowing": [...]

(P10)

Rebecca Fortnum's research has focused on the way artists use language, and in particularly the proliferation of words to describe or accompany artists' work.

Rosalind Krauss, "are beyond, or beneath, speech." ....... or techne

As Simon Sheikh writes, "thinking is, after all, not equivalent to knowledge. [...] lines of flight and utopian questionings".

Like many horror films about possession would use this line , 'death is only the beginning' , it reads quite hilarious but it may be the truth , if one believes that there is death (or have an image about death) , or the opposite of nihilism , 'there is no meaning of life' ..

16 Jan Wednesday

Nihilism . Existential Nihilism . Existentialism .

How do roses grow ? Why do roses have thorns ?

Combining with those ideas during the days , 'love' (unfortunately) is the key word of the group project , love is a interesting topic to dig into since that i have little knowledge about it , some of the other key words are 'memory' (mine) , 'existence' , 'symbolism' ,

'death' has divided into another group , but i can't see that their separation

'the highest value is to devalue themselves' , two sorts of values , to pursuit its truth .. what if by given the rose its value (life)

where does

appetite instinct

what if living without love or what is life if without love , 'why do people say

while 'time' is still around , in daily life , after the presentation , i felt it again about the feedback on last term , too many ideas that i have to structure them or don't ditch them for the potential to develop into a broader

I don't remember now when i'm trying to recall where did i meet the word 'ephemeral' , that leads to the term 'ephemerality' , I am indeed quite obsessed with words , even the fact for some parties that words are just words , 'rose is a rose is a rose' , (is it about the perception) . As time goes by , the rose would die , as human beings , (back to the point that the relation between time and being , if rose has no sensory experience , or rose does have , memory receptor ? then what would happen , unlike human beings , yet like beings , the end of the story - the death is inevitable . and with time given , limited time , a life given , growth , what if i document this process this time , as in light

Ben Fitton's 'Condition' on opinions / facts / truth .  What if truths are illusionary ? Facts are facts , though on the breakfast club about 'condition' , he made a statement that facts are facts (as the gravity , if people

life has no meaning if we give it some , as the roses , humanized then somehow turned it into a symbol as 'love'

17 Jan Thursday

Joseph Kosuth 's work pop in when i was reading an article about the conceptual art , he had a pice of work which is around 'Clock' as well , the way how he put it as 'simple (straightforward) as it seems to present the work about time (or maybe 'time' is not the point , but it gets the perception to audiences and their experience about the object itself .

sometimes i question about the language itself , if some people (children) who are are not yet understand those words , then what's the point when you play around with the linguistic side of it , by thinking of the relationship between language and object . the definition or the nature of it if audiences can not understand the meaning of the context , is that the reason why the history 'invented (introduced) this visual language (painting or other medium or some universal graphic signs to help people , to unify the common sense , to feel) . I am getting more interested in putting (adding) texts in my work , for me , it could be an excuse that i can say "no , sorry , i can not paint . painting is hard / limited to deliver the ideas that i want ." then the question comes , 'what should i do if without the special effect of texts' ?

writing fictions is not helping for a general or broader range of audiences to engage with art , especially when i went to a gallery , for example , the definition of the art pieces , in English . the good side is there's much more convenient assess to those interpreted (translated) words .

one of the connections about self interest or subject matter : consumerism

it can be originated by those writings or project i've been associated with , either products in supermarkets or digital media face/body consumption or the term of 'consumed love' , and i believe there are more out there , fetish (sexual pleasure) , is self loving can be a form of pleasure (where is sexual ? identity or its

'consumed love' to 'fetish' (thinking about the title for the off-site show) .

"in teenage internet circles, the phrase "Netflix and chill" has been inescapable. It's a phrase that means, roughly, "hooking up." But it's a lot more complicated than that. "Netflix and chill" is a classic case of social media-fueled semantic drift." (online explanation) . 'semantic' drift is the one i'm interested in . about 'semantic' in semiology , from my understanding suggests the mistakes (?) from what the other party perceives the meaning out of the context .

reading some article about the 'complex mind' which i am confused a bit or want to know more about the term : (there's the 'consume' word appeared again)

“Her complexity is a glorious fire that consumes, while her simplicity goes unapproachable. But if one takes time to understand her, there is something beautiful to find, something simple to be loved. But she goes unloved, for being misunderstood.”

-Anthony Liccione

'eros' could be the title ! (?)
